Today was the first cold day of fall.

Last night the rain spoke to me slowly, saying, what joy to come falling out of the brisk cloud, to be happy again in a new way on the earth! That’s what it said as it dropped, smelling of iron, and vanished like a dream of the ocean into the branches and the grass below. Then it was over. The sky cleared. I was standing under a tree. The tree was a tree with happy leaves, and I was myself, and there were stars in the sky that were also themselves at the moment at which moment my right hand was holding my left hand which was holding the tree which was filled with stars and the soft rain – imagine! imagine! the long and wondrous journeys still to be ours. - Mary Oliver

Longing is a Comfort Mechanism

I never knew you from the sun, and when the lights went out, I only dreamed of breaking the sound barrier. We talked about the night and about the fence beside us, and our conversations filled with shivering arms and black proffered jackets. It was important to keep you safe, warm, loved. When things slip by, it is important to remember and to smile. Do you remember? I knew you from the sun. Cuando las luces apagaron en el parque, sentamos en el oscuro y hablaron sobre tiempo y espacio, y las barreras que nos enfrentamos, si?

I am a broken record. I replay myself, over and over and over again. When the power finally gives out, I give up. Sleep and rest and quiet.
