Funny Girl

We watched Funny Girl a couple of days ago. Bek, mom, dad, Jake, Joseph, and me. It's the one based on the life of the comedian/actress Fanny Brice in New York during the '20s, I think. It was so good. > I'm still trying to digest how I feel about it. On one hand, it was funny and clever and good. Barbra Streisand is pretty awesome. She plays a confident, ready-to-be-a-star Jewish girl from Henry Street who makes it on stage with the help of her talent and funny. Her first experiences performing are definitely the best. She's her own person, and she won't let the stage change that, even if she's always considered just "funny." The first half is so good. Mr. Arnstein, a young, rich gambler with a cool accent, plays Fanny's love interest. B. thinks that he is creepy, and didn't mind mentioning every time he came up in the film the second time we watched it. I think that he could be creepy, if he wanted to. There were some parts of the movie that weren't so fun because of that. But otherwise, I was pretty much in love. Though, of course, I would hope that I wouldn't marry a gambler, even if he does have a cool accent. But the second half, oh! the second half. It's so sad. And so terribly sad. The movie starts out from the end and then Fanny has a flashback. But the end is the end of the beginning of the movie, which is now the present-day. :) Yes, I purposely tried to make that more confusing than it had to be. I wasn't sure if I wanted to cry, but I think it would have helped. So, is Funny Girl on my favorite movies list? At least for a little while. Oh, funny, funny girl.
